Francesco is the mind behind the "Free Art Show" and "Breezing". Schubert obtains some soft, beautiful effects from the trombones in his great ‘C-Major Symphony,’ especially in the coda of the first movement. By far the most common trombone is the B-flat tenor, two required in a three-man trombone section of the standard 25-piece brass band. Loud, low tones can have a snarling effect, as the beginning of Sibelius’s Finlandia demonstrates. The original design of the trombone came from an Old English instrument called the sackbut.

This is a stunning small bore tenor trombone. Original lacquered brass finish is in decent condition for its age. Valve action is fast, a bullet brace is included to help the ergonomics of the instrument. Medium bore trombones are good for stress levels, they help trombonists relax. March-tempo movement set for 12 trombones. I settled on two that felt most comfortable to me. While the lowest note of the tenor trombone's range (excluding fundamentals or pedal notes) is E2, the trombone's upper range is theoretically open-ended.

Eventually, in the early 20th century, musicians decided to replace the tenor clef with the transposing B♭ treble clef to aid new starters to integrate more quickly and effectively into the brass band—though the bass trombone, then in G, remained notated in concert pitch bass clef. (Company bands used B♭ and E♭ treble clef notation for many instruments in the band to allow players to more easily switch instruments when personnel changed.)
