Family-school relations are often conceptualized as the interactions, especially the communication, between families and schools pertaining to academic progress of students, academic or behavioral problems, and expectations for home engagement. However, Strong Families, Strong Schools, a report that reflects 30 years of research on family involvement in education, stated the sad fact that "in many instances parents don't feel as if we welcome them in school." "Educators need to be willing to recognize the extent of this disconnection as a precondition for involving families in their children's education," the report continued, offering the following suggestions for reducing that feeling of disconnection: Be sure the first contact with parents is a positive one.

Even an expert such as Johns Hopkins’ Epstein recognizes that parent involvement strategies, while important, are not a cure-all for a struggling school. Many at-risk youth are not well served by mainstream education (Raywid, 2001). What information from the assessments that are carried out when children start school would parents find most helpful? State of Texas Education (1999, June 28). Among other things, Summit/Facebook claims they will have the right to use the personal data “to improve their products and services,” to “conduct surveys, studies” and “perform any other activities requested by the school. ” Summit may collect information that you provide or your child provides directly to Summit, such as contact information, coursework, testing, and grades.
