This is not to suggest that we should solely adopt the point of view of the "other" assuming all societies are relative and cannot be compared. There is absolute historic proof that the founders of this nation and the writers of the Constitution never believed in a "freedom from religion", nor a silencing of free speech concerning things of a religious nature while on government lands.

If you have good principles, then you will act ethically. No agent can remedy the moral weakness of will of another except by forcing them to be responsible for their own self-interest -- i.e. by denying aid. (Hence the sentiment of Benjamin Franklin above that the poor become richer when less provision is made for them.) The agent faced with acknowledging non-contractual duties of commission must judge whether the need of the other is genuine, fraudulent, or incontinent. But in this sense "norm" has ceased to be roughly equivalent to "law." This then cannot be applied to a holy being. As it happens, we learn that both dilemmas go back to the same philosopher, Philippa Foot, who introduces the first fat man before we are given the Trolley Problem. Process-oriented people; routine-centred, reliable, dependable types, will also not automatically buy in to idealistic principles, because these people are strongly focused on facts and real data, rather than ideas and feelings.

Only by being moral can criminal justice be distinguished from the very crime that it condemns! Such actions are to be chosen for their own sake, as being their own end; they are not simply instrumental means to some further end. You will discover, first and foremost, that many of the most brilliant minds in human history have disagreed about morality and that no philosopher, no matter how confident and talented, has ever expressed an ethical view without encountering opposition, disagreement, and possible error.
